Water colour paintings and handicrafts made by the former ex LTTE cadres , who are presently being rehabilitated at various government run camps was exhibited at the National Art Gallery in Colombo on Monday. Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe said that paintings, handicrafts and other creations are by 400 ex-LTTE cadres and it will also be open for auction , the proceed of which will go directly to the beneficiaries.While the attention of the world community at the moment is now focused on the UN Expert’s panel report, which has suggested credible allegations of human rights violations both by the military and the LTTE especially in the last phase of the war , a more artistic side of some of these former combatants were put on display today. Over 400 such paintings of life and hope by the former Tigers today adorned the wall at the National Art Gallery in Colombo. The fingers which once pulled the triggers had etched out beautiful pictures in myriad colours , depicting message of peace or a happy family mood . Some of these ex LTTE cadres had sketched Mahatma Gandhi , who himself was a symbol of Ahimsa and peace. All these paintings were also open for auction, and the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation said that the proceeds would go directly to the beneficiaries. According to Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe , apart from vocational training psycho social rehabilitation to these former combatants and various therapy camps are also being run side by side for their mental and emotional well being. Sri Lankan Minister for Rehabilitation DEW Gunasekera, who inaugurated the exhibition , said that out of the 11696 surrendered ex -LTTE cadres , more than 7000 have already been released.
