Governor of Kerala and former Chief Justice of India Justice P. Sathasivam has stressed on the need of an amendment in the Protection of Human Rights Act to make Human Rights Commissions more effective.<br/><br/>Addressing the Human Rights Day function in New Delhi yesterday, Justice P. Sathasivam lauded the role of the National Human Rights commission (NHRC) towards Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. <br/><br/>He said, excesses of laws, lack of awareness and the lack of sufficient support from the legal services authorities need to be focused on to ensure protection of human rights in the country.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, NHRC Chairperson Justice H.L. Dattu, expressed confidence that by incorporating human rights as a way of life, a fundamental change can be brought about in the efforts to eradicate the scourge of poverty, ignorance and discrimination based on sex, caste and religion.
