Former Chief Justice of India H L Dattu today took charge as the Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission. He is the seventh Chairperson of the human rights watchdog. The chairperson and members of the commission are appointed by the President on the recommendation of the high-powered committee headed by the Prime Minister. <br/><br/>The committee had cleared the name of Justice Dattu for the post last week. The post was lying vacant for the last eight months after the retirement of Justice K G Balakrishnan. 65 year old Justice Dattu had retired as Chief Justice of India on 2nd December last year. He will have a tenure of five years.
