Ex-CBI officer agrees to assist CVC probe against Ranjit Sinha

Central Vigilance Commission, CVC has informed the Supreme Court that former CBI special director M L Sharma has given his consent to head a team for probing against former CBI chief Ranjit Sinha. Mr Sinha during his tenure was accused of scuttling investigation in the coal block allocation scam. Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi yesterday told a bench headed by Justice M B Lokur that M L Sharma has agreed to undertake the assignment. <br/><br/>However, he said that Mr. Sharma has sought time to select the officers to assist him in the inquiry. The bench has posted the matter further for hearing on 10th of next month. Mr Sharma had emerged as the first choice of the Supreme Court to assist the CVC after the anti-corruption watchdog had said it did not have its own investigating arm. <br/><br/>Earlier, the bench on 14th of May had admonished Ranjit Sinha for his completely inappropriate meetings with coal scam accused. It said that further inquiry is necessary to ascertain the fairness and impact of his conduct on the coal scam probe.
