President Ram Nath Kovind has said every child born with clubfoot should get access to treatment services by 2022, as soon as the condition is diagnosed. <br/><br/>Inaugurating Global Clubfoot Conference in New Delhi today, Mr Kovind said the country must work towards defeating clubfoot like polio. He said nation has to take defeating clubfoot like a mission – as was the case with polio or earlier smallpox. The President said nation owes it to the next generation to remove clubfoot from our list of public health challenges. <br/> <br/> The President said clubfoot is one of the most common orthopedic birth defects and it can cause permanent disability if not treated early. He said this affects the child's mobility and confidence. Mr Kovind said in India the burden of disability affects more than 10 million people. The President said he was happy to note that public hospitals are partnering with CURE International India to reach out to as many children as possible. The programme is now active in 29 states of India. <br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports, in India more than 50,000 children are born with Clubfoot every year. The two day conference was organised by CURE India in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
