Massive rescue operations are on to evacuate those stranded in flash flood and landslide affected areas of Uttarakhand. More than 150 helicopter sorties were conducted yesterday.

World's biggest Russian made helicopter MI-26 has been pressed into service. State Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna told reporters that Ghangaria, Gauri Kund and Kedarnath have been fully evacuated.

The focus now is on Badrinath where about 7000 to 8000 people are stranded. He said five thousand persons were evacuated from Badrinath yesterday.

529 breached roads have been repaired and pilgrims are being brought Haridwar from Fata and Guptakashi areas.

Evacuation of stranded pilgrims from Yamunotri begins today. About 700 people are stranded in Yamunotri.

An Army column has landed in Barkot. Of the 287 communication towers damaged, 167 have been restored.
