Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said a European man was involved in a false propaganda against the upcoming Jaitapur nuclear power plant. The comments came a day after he said local people were being misled by outsiders and certain political parties. He was talking to reporters in Nagpur after visiting Jaitapur in the coastalRatnagiri district. The 9,900 MW nuclear power project is a Indo-French joint venture. Mr. Chavan said the state government is pursuing development projects and that he put this point across to the local people. Addressing locals at Karel village near Jaitapur, the Chief Minister said yesterday that there was no basis to the objections raised by local outfits like Janhit Seva Samiti from Madban and fishing community in Sakhrinate village. He said he was ready to discuss objections of the locals, arisen as a result of propaganda, point by point.
