EURO Cup: Greece-Poland draw; Russia beat Czech Republic

In the inaugural match in UEFA EURO Cup football Championship 2012 in the Poland capital, Warsaw Greece earned a 1-1draw with co-host Poland in the opening match of the European Championship.Both teams now have one point in Group A. In another match, Russia registered a convincing 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic and made ideal start to their UEFA EURO 2012 campaign.Pope Benedict XVI issued a message ahead of the kick off, saying football was like a school that taught people about respect for one another and how to make sacrifices for the good of the rest of the team. The 23-day event is jointly hosted by Poland and Ukraine.Sixteen European countries have qualified for the competition, play-offs for which were played in November last year. All the 16 teams have been divided in four groups. The teams in Group-A are – Poland, Greece, Russia and Czech Republic; Group-B comprises of Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark. Group-C features defending champions Spain, Italy, Republic of Ireland and Croatia. And the teams in Group-D are – France, England, Ukraine and Sweden.
