The European Union has re-listed the defeated Sri Lanka's rebel group Tamil Tigers as a terrorist outfit. A release from the Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry on Wednesday said the European Union published its new list in which the Tamil Tigers remain following a comprehensive review of all listed terrorist groups. The EU first banned Tamil Tigers as a terrorist organization in May 2006, coinciding with the escalation of the armed conflict despite the government and rebels holding two rounds of inconclusive talks in Geneva. The full-scale civil war thereafter, led to the ultimate crushing of the rebels, ending their three decades old separatist campaign. The Tamil Tigers have been proscribed as a terrorist organization by dozens of countries.
