EU decides to provide financial assistance for setting up counter terrorism training centre in B'desh

The European Union has decided to provide financial and technical assistance for setting up a counter terrorism training centre for South Asia in Bangladesh. This was disclosed to reporters by Stefan Frowein, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Bangladesh after a meeting of the ambassadors of European Union countries in Dhaka with the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Dipumoni. Frowein said that the European Union will be providing financial assistance and resource persons for the start up phase of the training course project which is expected to begin by the first part of next year. He also added that India and Pakistan have already expressed their support to the proposal of Bangladesh hosting the counter terrorism training centre.In addition to this the Head of the delegation of the European Commission to Bangladesh also formally delivered a letter today to the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh supporting the country ‘s inclusion in the Asia Europe Meeting Group called ASEM. The letter of support was in delivered in response to the request made by the Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr.Dipumoni to include her country in the group.ASEM is a platform set up to facilitate an informal process of dialogue and co-operation between the 27 European Union Member States and the European Commission with 16 Asian countries.
