EU council mulling further sanctions against Russia

The European Union Council, at a meeting in Brussels yesterday, considered further sanctions against Russia, but made no decision, a senior diplomat said adding that the council would return to the matter. The meeting had been expected to result in an extension to the list of Russians to be forbidden entry to the EU and have their bank assets in the Union frozen. Earlier it was reported that EU governments reached a preliminary agreement to expand sanctions list in connection with the situation in Ukraine. The EU has adopted and repeatedly expanded list of sanctions against those it deems responsible for the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
