The Abu Dhabi based Air Carrier, Etihad Airways is likely to acquire 24 per cent stakes in Jet Airways and the negotiations between the two sides are expected to sail through over the next 10 days. According to reports, the Etihad Airways seems set to inject a fresh capital around $ 280 million to $ 330 in Jet Airways. Etihad has been talks with both Jet and Kingfisher Airlines in recent months. Etihad Airways said that it is yet to make its decision. Analysts. say that if the Etihad acquisition of stakes is finalized, it would help the Jet Airways cut its debt, which stood at US $ 600m in November last year. The move comes close on the heels of Indian government's decision to allow the foreign airlines to invest in Indian's domestic civil aviation industry. The Aviation industry experts say that any deal with Jet would strengthen Etihad's position against Dubai-based Emirates Airline. It would also improve Abu Dhabi's traffic between India which stands currently at 119 weekly flights against 352 weekly flights by Dubai based Emirates Airlines.
