The Ethics Committee of Rajya Sabha today took cognizance of the matter related to MP and industrialist Vijay Mallya who left the country following the tightening grip of probe agencies to recover unpaid debts to banks. <br/><br/>Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Committee Chairman Dr. Karan Singh said the Rajya Sabha Chairman had referred the matter this morning. He said the Committee has decided to proceed in the matter in accordance with rules. Mallya represents Karnataka in the House as an Independent MP.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the Committee examines cases concerning the alleged breach of the Code of Conduct by members and also cases concerning allegations of any other ethical misconduct . <br/><br/>If a member is found to have indulged in unethical behaviour or misconduct, the Committee may recommend censure, reprimand and suspension of the MP from the House for a specific period.
