The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is launching a special drive for enrolling more and more employees under its social security cover. Inaugurating the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Corporation in New Delhi today, the Labour Minister, Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge said over 16 thousand crore rupees have been spent on the medical care in 2009-10 and about 427 crore rupees disbursed as benefits. He said with a guaranteed good medical care and cash benefits, the scheme has helped in keeping the country's workforce healthy and productive. Giving details of the Corporation, the minister said the ESIC started with just two dispensaries at Delhi and Kanpur, which have increased now to 1486. He assured those areas where such facilities are not yet available will be covered under the scheme soon.
