The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has decided to extend the coverage of the ESI scheme to the entire country. Sources said, the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of ESIC chaired by Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya. At present, the ESI scheme is being implemented in industrial or commercial clusters located in 393 districts in the country. The fact of the matter is that over the years, the coverage has not gone up substantially. Surveys will be done for all the remaining districts where the ESI scheme has not been implemented so far.
