To prevent impersonation and bogus voting, the Election Commission has made it clear that those possessing electoral photo identity cards alone will be permitted to vote in the union territory of Puducherry, which goes to polls on the 13th of next month. Briefing newsmen in Puducherry today, the District Collector and Returning Officer Mr Ragesh Chandra said that this step has been taken in Puducherry, as it is one of the few states that have achieved 100 per cent coverage under EPIC.He said that a special ten-day camp is being organized from the 20th of this month to issue duplicate EPIC to voters who have lost them. Mr Ragesh Chandra said steps have been taken to issue cards to 12,000 voters who have applied for it.Senior Supt of Police Mr. Atul Kattar said 10 companies of central paramilitary force will be deployed for ensuring peaceful polling.
