Envoys visit Myanmar's strife-hit Rakhine

In Myanmar, foreign diplomats today visited some of the affected attack sites in Maungdaw, Rakhine.

The visit comes about three weeks after terrorists attacked border posts in the northern part of the region killing at least 10 security personnel. Authorities have since arrested more than 50 suspects.

The ambassadors of India, China, United States and UK were among diplomats and UN officials who arrived Maungdaw this morning.

This follows after increasing pressure from various international groups calling on the Myanmar government to allow independent monitors, agencies and journalists to visit affected areas.

Most of the one-million strong Rohingya are denied citizenship in Myanmar and tens of thousands have been trapped in grim displacement camps ever since religious violence tore
through Rakhine in 2012.
