Union Environment Minister Mrs Jayanti Natrajan has said that India is happy with the draft outcome document of the on going Rio + 20 summit which she said reflects India’s concerns in full. Speaking to mediapersons in Rio de janeiro, after participating in the negotiations for finalising the draft declaration, Mrs Natrajan said the hosts Brazil used a very transparent and inclusive process in finalising the draft which has been won all round support.
Stating that India has emerged as a leader in the summit , the most significant development for India is the restoration of the centrality of the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities in the environment discourse.
Mrs Natrajan said the outcome document clearly recognises that poverty eradication is the greatest global challenge and it places it squarely at the centre of the global development agenda. The Environment minister said the conference will be remembered for kick starting the sustained development goals.Expressing satisfaction that no specific goals or targets have been agreed to at the conference Mrs Natrajan said India looked forward to engage constructively in the inter govermaenatal process to outline and develop goals that will be applicable to all countries.
The environment minister said the India was little disappointed with the weak political will among developed countries to provide enhanced finances to developing countries for sustainable development.Mrs Jayanthi Natrajan said two important proposals put forward by India finds mention in a big way in the draft document of the summit which if all goes well would be adopted by the summit.
