Entire north India shivers under intense cold wave conditions

Intense cold wave continued to sweep North India with 25 people have died in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions of Uttar Pradesh alone. In UP the death toll continues to rise due to intense cold wave across the state. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that 25 people have died in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions alone. Blanket of thick fog is covering almost the entire state. The temperature hovered between 6 to 10 degrees at 8:30 on Monday morning.Highest ten people including a police constable died in Faizabad district. The state government has ordered to take all out efforts to prevent cold related deaths. It has ordered Panchayat level officers to supervise the relief work. The road and rail traffic is still badly hampered. Lucknow – Delhi Shatabdi express remained cancelled for second consecutive day. Several long distance trains are running up to ten hours’ delay. Met office has predicted foggy condition and dry weather for next 48 hours in most of the places. Icy wind giving no respite from severe cold conditions throughout the Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Early morning dense fog at several places and speedy cold wind coupled with below normal temperatures threw life out of gear. According to State Met Office with Minimum temperature of 2.0 degree Celsius Urai-Jalaun and Etawa were coldest place in the state last night. The average minimum temperature was 4 to 5 degree Celsius in the state last night while Maximum temperature was also 10 to 14 degree Celsius across the state and it was below normal in all divisions. There was no respite for Delhiites from the shivering cold today as icy winds blew at a speed of nine kilometers per hour and mercury fell by a few notches. The minimum temperature fell to 4.7 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal for this time. On Sunday was the coldest day in the past five years with the maximum sliding to 11 degrees.Sunday's maximum was ten degrees below normal for this period of time. A thin layer of fog covered the city early morning. It could be another chilly morning on Tuesday with the Weatherman predicting no respite for the citizens as icy winds are expected to blow across the city with a fog cover.Low temperature coupled with icy winds from the northern mountains have made life difficult for the people and the capital has recorded at least three cold-related deaths since December 26.An unprecedented long spell of cold wave is sweeping across Madhya Pradesh. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that Sidhi remained the coldest town in the state with the temperature hitting the minimum of 0.8 degrees. The unprecedented long spell of cold wave is proving quite tough for citizens. The minimum temperature continued to hover between zero and three degrees for the last seven days in several places. Citizens are taking extra precautions to keep themselves sufficiently warm. Sale of woolens and room heaters has soared. The Met department has predicted that cold wave conditions would continue in the state. Entire Rajasthan is in the grip of severe coldwave conditions. Minimum temperatures are ranging between minus four to two degree celcius in northern parts of the state and normal life is being affected. Today at the only hill station in Mount Abu mercury dipped further and recorded minus 4.2 degree celcius in the morning. In plain areas Churu was the coldest place with 0.4 degree centigrade. The adverse weather condition is affecting crops and due to fog some trains are also running late. With the sharp decline in the maximum temperature, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are continuously battling bitter cold waves all over the region. Fog and over cast sky have further deteriorated the situation and also affecting rail, road and air traffic.
