In Jharkhand, two political parties have demanded that entire state be declared drought hit. JMM legislature party leader in Jharkhand Assembly Hemant Soren demanded that instead of handpicking few districts as drought hit, the entire state should be declared drought hit as farmers facing starvation started migrating to cities as labourers. Mr. Soren said a JMM delegation will soon meet the Prime Minister on this issue.AJSU has also demanded that the entire state be declared as drought hit and a special package worth 15 thousand crore rupees should be given to the state immediately. State Chief Secretary AK Singh said that although the drought situation posed a big challenge in the state, but no one will be allowed to suffer from hunger. He said, he is personally monitoring the implementation of various schemes related to drought. He said food grain has been sent to Panchayat.Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar told Lok Sabha that a central team will visit Jharkhand and Bihar soon take stock of the situation.
