Union Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Piyush Goyal today said that the entire country would be lit by LED bulbs by the end of 2018 resulting saving of 100 billion units and 14,000 crore rupees per year. Mr. Goyal was speaking in Mumbai today, after inaugurating a 2- day National Conference on Energy Audit for Educational Institutions. <br/><br/>Making an appeal to everyone to avoid wastage and save the energy, the Minister said that cautious use of the energy would not only result in reduction in the cost of production but also help in saving the environment.<br/><br/>Expressing concern over the poor state of electrification in the country, Mr. Goyal said that Central Government is committed to provide 24×7 power even to the remote area overcoming all the hurdles.<br/><br/>He also said that Government is exploring possibility of a smart meter for those consuming over 200 units, which would give the consumption pattern and help consumer to avoid wastage of electricity. He informed that the percentage of coal production is showing an increasing trend and would achieve double digit figure in coming year.<br/><br/>Mr. Goyal also expressed confidence that India has potential to become superpower if it stands up as a team. Dr. Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice chancellor, Mumbai University, Shri Manju Nichani, Principal, K.C. College and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
