Ensure 2500 cusecs of water in Ganga during Magh Mela: HC

In Uttar Pradesh the Allahabad High Court has directed the state government to ensure release of 2500 cusecs of water daily into the river Ganga to ensure that the desired level of water is maintained at Sangam the confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati at Allahabad during Magh Mela.<br/><br/>A division bench of the court comprising Justices Ashok Bhusan and Justice Arun Tandon has passed this order on a PIL filed by local saint.<br/><br/>The court also directed the state government to take a decision on the submission made by Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, which had recommended that the Municipal Commissioner of Kanpur be prosecuted for failure to check the discharge of effluents into the river from the tanneries in the city despite repeated warnings from the court.<br/><br/>The court has fixed 4th of next month as the next date for further hearing of the case.<br/>
