England have retained the Ashes on Australian soil for the first time in 24 years. In Melbourne they registered an emphatic innings and 157-run win over Australia on the fourth day of the fourth test on Wednesday. England now travel to the final test in Sydney starting Sunday with a 2-1 series lead, but as the Ashes-holder, England need only to draw the series to keep the urn. The Aussies who began the day at their overnight second innings score of 169 for six, were all out for 258 runs. Last batsman Ryan Harris could not bat due to a foot injury. Brad Haddin remained unbeaten on 55. The final scores: Australia 98 and 258England – 513.
