England defeat India by 7 wickets in 2nd ODI match

England registered a comfortable seven wicket victory against India in the rain-curtailed second One-Day International at Southampton. Chasing a competitive 188 for victory in the shortened 23-over-a-side match last night, the hosts overhaul the target with five balls to spare. England skipper Alastair Cook led from the front with an unbeaten 80 that came off 63 balls. Craig Kieswetter (46off 25) Ian Bell (25 off 16) and Ravi Bopara (24 off 20) also made useful contribution in the home team's successful chase. For India, off-spinner R Ashwin was the most successful bowler for India picking up two wickets for 42 runs while R Vinay Kumar (1/33) accounted for the other English wicket. Earlier, young Ajinkya Rahane's maiden half-century and Suresh Raina's quickfire 40 helped India pile up an imposing 187 for eight. England are now 1-0 up in the five-ODI series with the next match scheduled at the Oval on Friday. The first game at Chester-Le-Street was abandoned due to rain.
