Engineering exports jump 55 per cent to US$ 3.95 bn

Engineering exports jumped by about 55 per cent to 3.95 billion US Dollars last month on improved demand from traditional markets like Europe and the United States. During April to November , the exports grew by 50 per cent to 31.6 billion US Dollars compared to the same period last fiscal. Engineering Export Promotion Council, EEPC, Executive Director R Maitra told mediapersons in New Delhi on Tuesday, there is an increase in demand not only from the western markets, but also from new markets like Latin America,Indonesia and Malaysia. AIR correspondent reports, the US and the EU together account for over 50 per cent of the total engineering exports.The council is hopeful of crossing 40 billion US Dollars mark this fiscal. Engineering exports include heavy engineering goods, transport equipment, capital goods, other machinery and equipment and light engineering products like castings and forgings.
