The government today said it is actively encouraging the creation, operation and maintenance of infrastructure assets in urban sector through public private partnership (PPP) for infrastructure development of cities in the country. In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, urban development minister Kamal Nath said urban transport, water supply, sewerage, solid waste management and other physical infrastructure in urban areas are eligible for support under the scheme for financial support to PPPs in infrastructure. He also said these sectors are also eligible for Project Development Expenses support under India Infrastructure Project Development Fund scheme. Mr Nath informed that Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra,Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have taken up projects successfully under PPP mode.
