In Jammu and Kashmir, the fierce encounter between militants and security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar has ended with the killing of one militant.At least one Jaish-e-Mohammad militant was killed on Thursday when security forces blew up two residential houses, where three ultras were holed up in Malroo locality. Security forces also fired mortar shells at the buildings. Police said combing operations were underway.The encounter started after police and troops cordoned off Malroo locality in the wee hours following a tip off about the presence of at least three militants in one of the houses in the area. The ultras opened fire on the security forces when they were zeroing in on the house. The troops retaliated and a gun battle ensued. At one stage, security forces sent a group of locals to persuade the militants to surrender, they said. However, the ultras refused the offer.
