In Uttar Pradesh, the death toll due to Encephalitis or brain fever has mounted to 268 this year as nine more patients succumbed to the virus-borne disease during past 48 hours. The dead include mostly children from eastern districts.AIR Gorakhpur correspondent quoting official sources says that this year, a total of 1377 patients of brain fever have been admitted to the BRD Medical College Hospital of which 109 have been tested positive for Japanese Encephalitis. Our correspondent reports that this year most of the cases are reported to be of water-borne Encephalitis.In view of increasing number of water borne viral encephalitis cases the civic authorities have started massive cleanliness programme in municipal limits as well as in rural areas. Special care is being taken to those places from where encephalitis cases have been reported. This year Kushinagar, Mahrajganj and Gorakhpur districts remained most affected as majority of the cases have been reported from these places.
