Empowerment of disabled needs people's participation: Thaawarchand Gehlot

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot today said that empowerment of the disabled needs people's participation. The Union Minister was addressing a press meet in Mumbai today. <br/><br/>Under the Cochlear Implant Scheme of the Government of India for hearing disability, hundred children under 6 years have benefited as a result of Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of the Power Finance Corporation. <br/><br/>He felicitated the children and their parents and said that parents must ensure speech therapy for one year at the Ali Yavar Jung Institute of Speech and Hearing disabilities to enable children to speak fully.<br/>'<br/>Each surgery costs about six lakhs rupees and the Power Finance Corporation has come forward to help the children from homes who cannot afford this kind of surgery. The Minister stated that the institute has cured 836 children with hearing disability through cochlear implant.<br/>'<br/>Mr Gehlot said that the Government of India has organised more than 5890 camps for helping people with various kinds of disabilities. More than 9 lakhs disabled have received aid during these camps.
