In Madhya Pradesh, a two-day meeting of the empowered committee of States' Finance Ministers began in Bhopal today.

The issues related to the common interests of the states are being discussed in the meeting.

AIR correspondent reports that the committee will especially discuss proposed imposition of Service Tax on the basis of negative lists of services.

Compensation of losses being suffered by the states in the wake of reduction in the rates of Sales Tax by the Union Government and tendency of VAT revenue during the year 2011-12 will also be reviewed.

Finance, commercial tax and statistics ministers of about 10 states are attending the meeting.
