In Maharashtra, employees of lower courts went on an indefinite strike Tuesday demanding better salaries and other administrative changes. Judicial work in the courts was affected in the absence of clerks, typists, interpreters and other Class-C staff. Mr. Rajan Desle, Secretary of the All Maharashtra Judicial Employees Union (AMJEU) told AIR that most of the class C and D employees, barring a few, participated in the strike.The Supreme Court had last year directed the state to follow the recommendations of the Shetty Commission, which had called for changes in the promotion and salary policy for judicial employees.
