National leaders and lakhs of people today bid an emotional farewell to the left patriarch and former West Bengal Chief Minister, Jyoti Basu in Kolkata. His funeral was held with full state honours at Mohurganj Park before his body was handed over to the SSKM hospital authority for medical researches as per his last wishes. Basu died on 17th of this month after prolonged illness. He was 96.AIR Kolkata Correspondent Arijit Chakraborty reports that cutting across party affiliation, a sea of people from every walk of life and all ages thronged at the Assembly House in Kolkata to pay their last respect and took part in his last journey. UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, BJP leader, L.K.Advani, a number of Central Ministers, Chief Ministers of different States, representative of Foreign Consulate and a delegation led by Bangladesh Premier, Sheikh Hasina were present to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
