Eminent playback singer Yesudas has been selected for Kerala Government's highest music award, “Swathi Puraskaram”, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Indian music. An official release in Thiruvananthapuram said that the singer was selected for the honour by a jury headed by 'mridangam' maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman. The award, named after legendary musician and composer Swati Tirunal, comprises one lakh rupees, a citation and memento. K J Yesudas popularly known as Yesudas, has sung in hundreds of films in various Indian languages, besides making a mark as a classical singer. He is also famous for his devotional songs.
