In Assam, the mortal remains of the eminent litterateur, Jnanpith awardee Dr. Indira Goswami has been consigned to flames today with full State Honours at Guwahati in presence of a large gathering of her admirers and relatives.The funeral pyre was lit by her niece Mrinmoyee Goswami after a 21 gun salute and religious hymns chanted by priests.The State Governor J. B. Patnaik, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and top Government officials were among those attended the funeral ceremony.Earlier, the body of the deceased litterateur was taken to the crematorium in a flower-decorated vehicle from her residence at Gandhi Basti in the city, escorted by a huge funeral procession.Dr. Indira Goswami breathed her last at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital yesterday morning following multi-organ failure at the age of 70.Assam Government has declared a three-day State Mourning from yesterday.
