In Andhra Pradesh, electricity employees have called off strike after holding talks with Chief Minister Kiran kumar Reddy in Hyderabad today.
Protesting the proposed bifurcation of the state, power employees in Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra regions have been striking work for the past five days.
Seemandhra electricity employees Joint Action Committee Convener Saibabu and President Srinivasa rao later told reporters that they call off strike temporarily in view of the impending cyclonic storm “Phailin” and the hardships that the people are facing due to power crisis.
The leaders said they are convinced with the view of the Chief Minister that it will not be proper to continue strike when people are in distress.
Normal life in the 13 districts of Seemandhra region has been hit hard due to power crisis for the past five days affecting all basic services medical, rail transport and drinking water supply. Power generation was affected to a tune of five thousand mega watts.
