The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2014 was introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Power Minister Piyush Goyal. The Bill seeks to improve the distribution system by giving choice to the consumer, promotion of renewable energy, maintenance of grid security, rationalization of tariff determination and strengthening of Regulatory Commissions. However on opposition's demand, the government agreed to send the Bill to the Standing Committee.
