Electoral rolls in five states under quick revision

The electoral rolls in five states going for polls next year are under quick revision. The voters’ lists are being revised with the coming January 1st as cut off date for inclusion of eligible new voters in Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarkhand and Goa. A large number of first time voters are expected to be added to the present 11 crore 19 lakh voters in Uttar Pradesh that is going for assembly polls in seven phases in the next February. With over 16 lakh 77 thousand voters at present, Manipur is undergoing electoral revision in the run up of polls on January 28th.

Punjab has over one crore 74 lakh voters where as Uttarakhand has 57 lakh 40 thousand on the rolls. Polling will be held on January 30th in both the states. With about 10 lakh 11 thousand voters at present, Goa is heading for polling on March 3rd.

While announcing the poll schedule, Chief Election Commissioner S Y Qureshi said yesterday that elaborate arrangements are also being made to issue Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to all voters as the Photo Identity Card is one of the main Identification for voters this time. The Electoral rolls have been covered with photos by 98 percent in Uttar Pradesh while it was 97 percent in Manipur, 99 point five percent in Punjab, 99 point six percent in Uttarkhand and 100 percent in Goa.
