In Uttar Pradesh, electoral battle for all four phases has been cleared after ending of withdrawal of nomination papers for phase three and four. Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party are in contest on their party's symbol while ruling Samajwadi Party and main opposition Bahujan Samaj Party have not given their symbol for these elections.Quoting sources from the State Election Commission AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that about 170 candidates have been declared elected unopposed in the Local Bodies Elections. A total of 6566 candidates are in fray for the posts of Mayors and Chairmen of Nagar Palika and Nagar Panchayats while 59,789 candidates are in contest for the posts of ward members for all four phases.Poling for phase one will be held on 24th of this month for four Municipal Corporations of Lucknow, Varanasi, Moradabad and Meerut and 42 Nagar Palika Parishad and 95 Nagar Panchayats spread over 18 districts. In view of several competitive examinations the State Election Commission has pre poned the polling for Lucknow Municipal Corporation for one day. In Lucknow polling will be held on June 23.In phase two polling will be held on June 27 in 5 Municipal Corporations including Agra, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Bareilly and 50 Nagar Palika Parishad and 106 Nagar Panchayats spread over 17 districts.In phase three and four polling will held on July 1 and 4 respectively in 3 Municipal Corporations of Aligarh, Ghaziabad and Jhansi and 95 Nagar Palika Parishad and 183 Nagar Panchayats spread over 37 districts.The Commission has deployed special observers at every district to insure free and fair polling in the elections.
