Elections in five states: Interesting Facts

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Among the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana, the state of Mizoram registered the highest polling percentage at 80.66 percent in the assembly elections.&nbsp;</span>Madhya Pradesh had the highest number of candidates, electors, constituencies and polling stations.</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">&nbsp;</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Creating history, all the polling booths in the Raipur North Assembly Constituency in Chhattisgarh were staffed and managed completely by women polling personnel making Raipur North the first ever Assembly Constituency to do so, in the country.</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">&nbsp;</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">In Kanker, Chhattisgarh, in a novel initiative, a Rainbow Model Polling Station was set up in Pakhanjur area which is inhabited by the highest number of voters in the third gender category. The polling station had security personnel also belonging to the third gender instilling confidence and eliminating stigma regarding third gender voters, which re-asserts ECI’s commitment towards an inclusive and participative election.</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">&nbsp;</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">In 126 villages in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh, polling stations were set up for the first time since independence in seven Left Wing Extremist (LWE) affected districts. The polling stations were set up to eradicate the hardships faced by voters in these villages as they no longer had to endure long treks through dense forests, hills, rivers and braving the threats posed by LWE to exercise their franchise. The voters in these polling stations bear witness to the victory of ‘Ballot over Bullet' in the elections.</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />”</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Owing to the concerted effort by the ECI to facilitate voting amongst the tribal communities, voters from tribal communities participated enthusiastically in these elections. The number of eligible voters amongst these four PVTG groups was 39,186. A dedicated effort by the ECI to facilitate voting amongst the tribal communities ensured 100 per cent enrolment amongst these groups. Moreover, 597 all-women-managed Polling stations and 119 PwD-managed polling stations were set up across all assembly constituencies in the state.</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">&nbsp;</p>”<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Counting for the Assembly Elections for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana will be held tomorrow. Whereas for Mizoram the date of counting has been revised from Sunday to Monday on the ground of Sunday bearing a special significance for the people of Mizoram.</span></p>
