Open electioneering for Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections (SGPC) came to an end today at four p.m. . Polling to elect 170 members of the SGPC will be conducted on Sunday 18th September.Among these 170 members 157 will be elected from Punjab, 11 from Haryana and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. Total 579 candidates are there in the fray ,among which 525 are in Punjab, 39 in Haryana, 9 in Chandigarh and 6 in Himachal Pradesh.Total 8334 polling booth have been set up among which half are sensitive and 458 are super sensitive. It may be noted that SGPC manages all historical gurdwaras in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. It was established by an act of 1925 and elections are conducted by Union Home Ministry.
