Today being the last date of filing nomination papers for the first phase of elections in Assam, election fever has already set in the Barak Valley of South Assam. A total of 15 seats under the three districts of Hailakandi, Karimgunje and Cachar are at stake in the first phase of polling. In order to get a majority, these seats are very important as they can make or unmake the election result of the rest of the state. Majority of the people of these three districts of Assam are Bengali speaking by and large.
