Election Commissioner says technology opened new window to protect, support democratic institutions & electoral process

<span style="color: #222222;">Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey today said that technology has opened a new window to protect and support democratic institutions, and the electoral process. He, however, said, cyber-attacks and information influence operations are posing an increasing threat to election infrastructure and perception of electoral integrity.<br />''<br />''Mr Pandey was addressing the concluding ceremony of the two-day international conference on 'Use of Technology' and 'Election Integrity' in New Delhi today. He added that the Election Management Bodies are required to navigate between the greater and easier citizen participation that accrues due to greater use of technology in elections. <br />''<br />''Highlighting the positive role played by technology in the election process, the Election Commissioner said that electorate confidence and stakeholder trust is necessary for technology absorption in the electoral processes.  <br />''<br />''AIR Correspondent reports that this was the 2nd conference hosted by the Election Commission of India under the aegis of the Cohort on 'Elections Integrity', which was established under the Summit for Democracy – Year of Action Programme. Over 40 participants from 16 Countries or Election Management Bodies, including from Angola, Armenia, Argentina, Australia, Chile, Croatia, Fiji, Georgia, Indonesia, Kiribati, Mauritius, Nepal, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Suriname and various international organisations participated in the Conference. Besides this, representatives from eight foreign missions located at New Delhi also participated in the Conference.  The 3rd Conference on 'Inclusive Elections and Elections Integrity' will be held in early March this year.     </span><br />
