Election Commission bans opinion and exit polls for Tripura till February 27

Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura, Kiran Gitte on Friday said that opinion and exit polls have been banned till 7pm of 27th February. Talking to reporters in Agartala, Mr. Gitte said that only print media can publish the advertisement of political parties on 15th and 16th of February. However, such advertisements will need prior approval from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee. The CEO added that election campaign-related activities will not be allowed in electronic media 48 hours prior to the polling day, as it may influence the voters.<br />'' <br />'' Mr. Gitte said that as opposed to a mere 2.5 crore rupees in 2018, contraband substances to the tune of 32 crore rupees have been seized in Tripura by the law enforcement agencies since the polling dates were announced. In Sipahijala alone 25-30 acres of land of opium was destroyed by the authorities, he added.<br />'' <br />''The polling for the 60-seat Tripura legislative assembly will be held on the 16th of this month. Whereas, polling for the other two north-eastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland will take place on 27th of February. Counting of all the three states will be taken up on 2nd of March.
