In Assam, political campaign reached momentum in all the 62 constituencies going to polls on 4th of the next month. Star campaigners of almost all the parties contesting the elections, are making a bee-line to woo the voters in the state.AIR correspondent reports, with only four days left for the first phase of polls, campaigning by the political parties and candidates got its momentum amidst criss-crossing. Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee,BJP President Nitin Gadkari,Sushma Swaraj,Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, former chief minister Praffulla kumar Mahanta ,among others, on Tuesday addressed election meetings at Barak Valley and Upper Assam.Altogether, 84 lakhs 88 thousands 386 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise. Of these around 40 percent electorates are young voters. This young group of voters will play a major role to select 62 MLA s out of a total of 485 candidates contesting the elections in first phase. Most of the political parties are highlighting particularly, the issues pertaining to younger generation to attract them towards their fold. Employment generation, education , development besides restoration of peace in the insurgency hit state and corruption issues are being prominently highlighted in the polls campaigns.
