The election campaign in Goa has been intensified ahead of the State Assembly polls slated on March 3. The election rallies of the prominent leaders of various political parties are being held in various constituencies. AIR correspondent reports that Union Power Minister and senior Congress leader Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde addressed an election rally at Aldona today while Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Ajit Pawar and Home Minister Mr. R. R. Patil are going to hold another rally at Tivim later in the evening for the Nationalist Congress Party candidate there.Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary-in-Charge Mr. Gopinath Munde also held election meeting at Mala in the capital last evening. He has reiterated the demand to publish the Shah Commission report with regard to illegal mining in the state before the Assembly Elections. He also mentioned that the BJP is of the view that the Regional Plan 2021 should be scrapped altogether and new one should be prepared in consonance with the aspirations and expectations of the local populace.The main contest this time would be between the ruling Congress and Nationalist Congress Party alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party and Maharshtravadi Gomantak Party combine. The MGP has sided with the BJP on the verge of elections after getting out of the Congress-led alliance. There are 215 candidates in fray for total 40 seats locked mostly in the multi-cornered contests.
