In the poll-bound Kerala, the election campaign gains momentum as the process of filing of nominations closes today for the State Assembly Elections. The state will be witnessing Single- Phase elections and all the 140 Assembly Constituencies will go to polls on 6thof April. Polling for the Bye-Election for the Malappuram Lok Sabha seat will also be held on the same day. The total strength of the house is 140 out of which 14 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes and two seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. Communist Party of India bagged 19, Indian Union Muslim League won 18 seats while Kerala Congress (M) and independents got six seats each. Others were elected on five seats. Janata Dal (Secular) got four while Nationalist Congress Party, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Socialist Janata (Democratic) and independents got two seats each.
