Elaborate security in place in wake of ‘rail roko’ agitation

In Andhra Pradesh, elaborate security arrangements have been made in Telangana region in the wake of three-day 'rail roko' agitation. The agitation has been called by Political Joint Action Committee from midnight. Security has been stepped up at all important and sensitive places across the region.

The south central railway has cancelled 136 trains including express and long distance trains in 11 sections from the midnight today. Over 60 more trains have been partially cancelled while 95 other trains have been diverted and rescheduled for next three days.

The cancellation of train services will also affect the services to other states including Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Maharastra, Kerala and Goa . However, the Railway authorities will be running 20 express and passenger trains with protection for the benefit of commuters.

Meanwhile, the Railway authorities have set up 50 help lines, one at each important station, to provide trains information to passengers. Passengers queued to cancel journey and get refund at several railway stations.

The Telangana JAC has called for the three day Rail blockade agitation as part of its General Strike which is underway for the past 32 days demanding statehood for Telangana.

Meanwhile, the normal life in telangana region continued to be hit on the 32nd day today due to the General Strike.
