Elaborate security arrangements for Assembly polls in Assam, W Bengal tomorrow

In Assam, all preparations have been put in place for the second and final phase of assembly elections. 61 seats will go to polls in this phase on Monday.<br/><br/>A total of 525 candidates are in fray in this phase. Polling personnel deployed to conduct elections have reached their booths.<br/><br/>Additional CEO Nitin Khade said that central armed police forces have been deployed at almost all polling booths.<br/><br/>He said adequate security measures have been taken and additional forces have also been deployed as per requirement.<br/><br/>1617 booths have been identified as hyper sensitive in this phase.<br/><br/>A total of 1.4 crore eligible voters can exercise their franchise. Polling will start at 7 am.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that most of seats are likely to witness triangular fight between BJP – Asom Gana Parishad- BPF alliance, AIUDF and Congress-UPP combination.<br/><br/>While BJP has put candidates in 35 assemblies, its ally Asom Gana Parishad will contest in 19 seats and BPF will vie in 10 seats.<br/><br/>Congress and its ally UPP are contesting all 61 seats and AIUDF candidates are in the race for 47 seats.<br/><br/>Among the prominent candidates, Asom Gana Parishad leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta from Bahrampur, Congress minister Rockybul Hussein at Samaguri, BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari and AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal will contest from North Salmara seat.<br/><br/>In West Bengal, polling will be held in 31 constituencies spread over Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Burdwan districts.<br/><br/>In all 350 companies of central security forces, already camping in the area since the 4th April polling, have been put in place to ensure peaceful polling.<br/><br/>State Additional CEO Dibyendu Sarkar told AIR that Central forces have been deployed at all the polling stations to ensure free and fair polling. The local police will maintain the voters' queues outside the booths.<br/><br/>Interstate borders along Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar have been sealed and aerial surveillance will begin from today as parts of the constituencies spread in Paschim Medinipur and Bankura have been categorized as very sensitive from the security angle. Online monitoring through mobile van mounted live feeding cameras and CCTVs will be done by the Election Commission.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports,over 70 lakh voters will decide the electoral fate of 163 candidates in Monday's voting.<br/><br/>All the seats are mainly poised to see a triangular contest between the ruling Trinamul Congress, BJP and the Left-Congress combine candidates.<br/><br/>Congress' Ten Time MLA and former minister Gyan Singh Sohanpal and state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh are locked on Kharagpur Sadar seat while prominent CPI-M candidate Surjya Kanta Mishra and Congress leader Manas Bhunia are trying to retain Naraingarh and Sabang seats respectively.<br/><br/>Pingla, Bishnupur and Asansol Uttar are also the key constituencies as prominent members of the outgoing Mamata cabinet are locked in three-cornered fight.<br/><br/>Two-phased polling was announced for 126-member Assam Assembly, while in West Bengal, which has 294 constituencies, voting will be held in six phases.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for tomorrow's second and final phase of Assembly elections in Assam, and second part of first phase in West Bengal.<br/><br/>In Assam, 61 constituencies covering Lower and Central parts of the state will go to the polls in this phase. <br/><br/>Additional DGP, LR Bishnoi said, adequate security measures have been taken in Bodoland Territorial Council area. He said, central armed police forces will be deployed at polling booths and security has been increased at Indo-Bhutan border areas.<br/><br/>In West Bengal, polling will be held in 31 constituencies spread over Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Burdwan districts.<br/><br/>Central Armed Police Forces will handle the situation inside the booths, while the state police forces are involved in other jobs like maintaining queues and managing crowds.<br/><br/>Two-phased polling was announced for 126-member Assam Assembly, while in West Bengal, which has 294 constituencies, voting will be held in six phases.<br/><br/>The process of polls in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will begin on the 22nd of this month.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports political fate of several senior leaders including Nazrul Islam, Rockybul Hussein, Nilmoni Sen Deka from Congress , Himanta Biswa Sarma, Ranjit Kumar Das and Siddhartha Bhattacharya of BJP , AIUDF President Badruddin Ajmal and LDP Chief Pradyut Bora among others will be decided. 1 crore 4 lakh voters can exercise their democratic rights in the second and final phase tomorrow. <br/><br/>Election Commission has deployed 916 Micro Observers. 505 polling booths will be covered by web casting system. <br/><br/>In all 350 companies of central security forces, already camping in the area since the 4th April polling, have been put in place to ensure peaceful polling.
