Elaborate arrangements made for smooth launch of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ambitious financial inclusion scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana later today.

All the banks including Public sector banks have made elaborate arrangements for the smooth roll-out of the scheme and have started opening accounts.

The banks are expected to open maximum possible accounts on the first day today.

AIR correspondents reports that people are enthusiastic about the scheme and have started arriving in the banks to make the inquiries and open accounts.

People specially from economically weaker sections have started pouring in the banks to open accounts and the process gears up on the basis of Adhaar cards and filling up of E-KYC-Know Your Customer Forms.

Banks are also organising camps at various places to make the scheme a success. The scheme is aimed at bringing poor people into the banking system by providing them bank accounts. Jan Dhan Yojna will cover both urban and rural areas and all bank accounts opened will be linked to a Ru-Pay debit card.

The main features of the scheme include 5 thousand rupees overdraft facility for Aadhar-linked accounts, RuPay Debit Card with inbuilt Rs 1 lakh, accident insurance cover and minimum monthly remuneration of 5,000 rupees to business correspondents who will provide the last link between the account holders and the bank.

Besides the main function in Delhi, the scheme is being launched simultaneously at all state capitals and district headquarters.
