EJCC threatened to intensify the strike in J&K

Refusing to resume work for the 4th day on Wednesday even after the Jammu and Kashmir government invoked the Essential Commodities Maintenance Act (ESMA), the Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) threatened to intensify the strike if their demands are not met by April 10.<br/><br/>The patients were the worst hit as work in all hospitals associated with Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu remained paralysed since Saturday. Number of patients in indoor wards of Government hospitals have also left for their homes due to the strike called by the paramedical and other staff in the. The Out Patient Department (OPD) also remained locked though patients could be seen waiting outside.<br/><br/>The government the advertisement in almost all local daily newspaper on Tuesday declared the strike by the employees 'unjustified'. It said that total income from all sources of the state was just Rs 3,600 crore while the salary bill of employees was Rs 9,000 crore, pension bill Rs 1,800 crore and DA allowance Rs 725 crore. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, All J&K Pensioners Association and Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation have openly come out in support of the demand of striking state Government employees. <br/><br/>The Bank Federation has termed the Government’s argument of having no resources to pay the arrears to its employees as irrational saying if the Government has no resources then how it recently increased the wages and perks of MLAs, MLCs and Ministers substantially.<br/>
